To extend the functionality of the ELN with Microsoft Office Products Word, Powerpoint or Excel, users can install the Office Online Server add-on from the Marketplace.
Note: the Office Online Server add-on is a paid add-on. In case the use of the Office Online Server add-on is not part of an organisation's current license plan, users can click purchase add-on to contact eLabNext support to upgrade their license plan or request a free trial. In the case that an organisation has a Private Cloud or On-Premises installation, please also contact eLabNext support for more information on how to get this add-on.
Marketplace Add-on installationeLabNext offers a wide range of add-ons and integrations to enhance the functionality of your digital lab platform. The categories include biobanking, utilities, productivity, and reporting. The eLab Marketplace is conveniently available within the eLabNext platform, making it easy to find, install, and start using add-ons immediately. To install an add-on, navigate to the Marketplace tab and choose "Install" for the add-on you'd like to add. Depending on the add-on or your organization-wide settings, some add-ons might already be installed for you by default. |
The use of this add-on requires a valid Microsoft License. If a user's organisation has an on-premises Office Suite license with Software Assurance or an Office 365 ProPlus subscription, users are eligible to use this add-on without additional license fees to Microsoft. In cases of doubt, please contact Microsoft support.
Note: upon installation, only MS Excel will be active by default. To enable MS Word, MS PowerPoint, users can change the add-on configuration in the Marketplace.
Once the add-on has been installed, users can create sections for MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, or MS Word in the ELN by clicking Add Section and selecting from the MS Office options within the Type dropdown.
After creating the section, users can either start by Upload an existing file or with a New File
After saving, an image of the data will be generated and displayed in the ELN section.
Note: all versions of the files are automatically kept in the file history, meaning there will be a full audit trail of all modifications made to the document. For organisations that wish to integrate the full offline version of Excel, PowerPoint, or Word, the use of eLabWebEdit enables this.
