The Protocols.io add-on for eLabNext allows users to seamlessly access, import, and manage protocols from the protocols.io repository directly within the ELN. Researchers can search for existing protocols, import them into their eLabNext workspace, and link them to specific experiments.

Marketplace Add-on installation

eLabNext offers a wide range of add-ons and integrations to enhance the functionality of your digital lab platform. The categories include biobanking, utilities, productivity, and reporting. The eLab Marketplace is conveniently available within the eLabNext platform, making it easy to find, install, and start using add-ons immediately.

To install an add-on, navigate to the Marketplace tab and choose "Install" for the add-on you'd like to add. Depending on the add-on or your organization-wide settings, some add-ons might already be installed for you by default.

Once the Protocol.io add-on has been installed, the option to import a protocol file directly into an ELN File section will be available. Click on the Protocol.io icon to open the user's Protocol.io account and allow the selection of the files to import to the ELN.

Note: a Protocol.io account is required for use within eLabNext

Within the Protocols.io pop-up window, users can search for their private or public/shared protocols by using the access type filter and search bar. After selecting a protocol(s) using the tick boxes, confirm the import by clicking Import. The selected protocols will then be imported to the File section within the ELN.

After importing the protocol, the following actions are supported:

  • Delete File - removing it from the file section
  • File History - view the file version history to download earlier versions of the file, as well as that version's certificate of authenticity
  • Download file - download the file to the usres local computer
  • Edit file - open the file for editing in the associated program on the users desktop computer (requires the installation of the eLabWedEdit add-on)
  • View File - view the protocol within eLabJournal

To preview the protocol in eLabJournal, click the View icon to open the file in view-only mode.

 

Note: this add-on does not sync files between the ELN and the Protocols.io repository. A copy of the file is uploaded to the ELN and will be tracked separately in the ELN in accordance with GLP compliance
