Users can search for samples by navigating to the Sample List tab under the Inventory tab. Enter a search term within the filter samples field to find relevant samples. eLabNext uses a dedicated indexing server that indexes all samples to facilitate searches based on all stored sample information. The sample search index contains data added in all sample fields.
Note: keyword searches are case-insensitive
Users can also search for samples in the Inventory Browser tab using the Search bar. The results of this search will be displayed within the search results dropdown list, from which users can navigate to either a location or a sample information sheet.
Note: users can further narrow down search results by using the advanced sample search feature under the Advanced Search tab within the Inventory tab.
Search Filters
Users can use multiple sample filters to conduct searches more accurately and repeatedly. The following default filter fields are available:
- Checked out - If the sample is currently checked out or not
- Checked out at - The date before or after the sample was checked out
- Checked out by - The user/users that did or didn't check out the sample
- Created date - The date the sample was created before or after

Search filters can be added by clicking + More. Custom sample filters are also available for the custom fields within each sample type. When filters are added to the search in eLabNext, various operators can be selected, depending on the field type.
Filter templates can be saved and shared to speed up regular sample searches. To save filters, add all desired filters and parameters, select Save filter, then Save as a new filter.
The search template can be named and briefly described before being saved or shared within the user's group.
Note: saved filters can be found within the filter icon on the left side of the search field
