To duplicate tubes or make aliquots of existing stock, users can clone samples. To clone a sample, open the sample information sheet and click on Clone.
From the appeared window, users can select from a couple of cloning workflows:
- Create clones or aliquotes as individual samples
- Create clones or aliquotes as new sample series
- Create clones as a different sample type
Cloning with a sample type change
When cloning to new sample type, the user must remap the samples custom fields to the new sample types. Automatic remapping occurs for fields with the same name, but manual remapping must be done for any remaining fields.
once the fields have been remapped, the workflow follows the selected workflow for either:
- Create clones or aliquots as individual samples
- Create clones or aliquots as new sample series
Cloning without changing the sample type
In the pop-up window, users can define how many clones they want to add of this sample. Users can set the following clone settings:
Create clones or aliquots as individual samples
- Number of samples – the number of tubes or aliquots the user wishes to add to the sample to be cloned (required)
- Storage location – the location (or starting location within a box) where the samples will be stored
- Sample quantity – the quantity of each tube that you are adding to the system (only available with the Supplies module)
After defining the cloning settings, click Clone to add the cloned samples to the system.
Create clones or aliquots as new sample series
When choosing the clone as a series option, several series-specific options will become available:
- Track parent in cloned sample - Set the parental sample in all cloned samples
- Include current sample in the new series – the sample users are cloning will be included in the created sample series
- Apply series name as a name for created samples – the name of the sample series (Note: the name of the created samples will be identical to the sample that is being cloned; when auto-numbering is active, the name will state the range of samples)
- Add incremental number – add an incremental number behind or in front of the name of each sample cloned to the sample series
After defining the cloning settings, click Clone to add the cloned samples to the system.
After cloning a sample, the clones will be stored in the selected location. Single samples have a white background, while sample series are identified by a coloured background fill.
If the option to track parent in cloned sample was checked when cloning a sample, the parent sample from which the clones were derived is automatically linked and displayed on the sample information sheet of each cloned sample.
