Samples stored within the Inventory can have their sample type changed to a different sample type when updates to their classification are required. This action can be performed either in bulk from the inventory browser or individually from the sample’s overview page. During this process, existing field data can be mapped to the new sample type to ensure continuity of information.
The Change Type action is available in two places:
From the Inventory browser, select multiple samples using the checkboxes. The action is only possible when all selected samples share the same sample type.
From a sample’s overview page, where the change can be applied to a single sample.
Selecting a New Sample Type
After choosing to change the sample type, a list of available sample types within the same group is shown. The desired sample type can be selected from this list.
Mapping Existing Fields to the New Sample Type
Once a new type is selected, a field mapping interface appears. Each field from the original sample type can be mapped to a corresponding field in the new sample type. This ensures that existing data is carried over and stored appropriately in the new structure.
All required fields must be mapped before the conversion can be completed.
Data Integrity and Audit Trail
After the sample type is changed, the sample’s audit trail remains intact. All historical data, including the original values and user actions, is preserved. The type change is recorded as part of the audit to ensure traceability.
