We will continue to update this page as more information becomes available, and we'll extend the FAQ below as customer questions come in following this announcement.
Support for the eLabInventory mobile app will end on 30th November 2026. The eLabInventory app is no longer being developed and has been replaced by the eLabNext mobile app, which includes the same inventory functionality, plus access to experiments, procedures, and notes.
How does this impact users?
If users currently use the eLabInventory mobile app, we recommend switching to the eLabNext app before 30th November 2026.
Inventory data will not be affected. It is stored in the user's SciSure account rather than on the mobile device used, so there is no need to export, back up or import anything when switching. Samples, storage locations, boxes, quantities, history, barcodes and labels will remain available.
How to switch to the eLabNext app
Switching takes only a few minutes.
1. Install the eLabNext app
2. Sign in using an existing eLabNext account
Use the same email address and password already used for eLabNext. Users do not need to create a new account or complete a separate registration process.
3. Open Inventory
Open the Inventory tab to access the existing samples, storage locations, boxes and history. No data needs to be imported.
Once users have signed in and confirmed that they can access their inventory, they can remove the eLabInventory app from their device.
What can users do in the eLabNext app?
The eLabNext app provides the inventory functionality available in the eLabInventory app, as well as access to other areas of eLabNext.
| Action | Where to find it in the eLabNext app |
|---|---|
| Scan a barcode to find a sample | Tap the barcode icon at the bottom right of the Activity or Inventory tab. |
| View or edit sample details | Open the Inventory tab and browse or search for the sample, or scan its barcode. |
| Move a sample to another storage location | Open the sample details by selecting the sample in the Inventory tab or scanning its barcode. |
| Archive a sample | Open the sample details and select the archive action. |
| Book equipment | Scan the equipment barcode, then tap the calendar icon. |
| Receive stock and signing notifications | Notifications are available for events such as low inventory levels and sign or counter-sign requests. |
Users can also use the eLabNext app to access experiments and procedures, take notes, sync images to the web application and generate two-step verification codes.
For more information, see Mobile App.
What happens next?
We recommend switching to the eLabNext app as soon as possible. This avoids disruption if users replace or reset their device, or if a future operating system update affects the eLabInventory app.
Support for the eLabNext app will continue as normal. If users need help switching, please submit a request and our Support team will be happy to assist.
Frequently asked questions
Will I lose any data when I switch?
No. Inventory data is stored in the user's SciSure account, not locally in the mobile app. Nothing needs to be exported, backed up or imported before they switch.
Users' samples, storage locations, boxes, quantities and history will remain as they left them. Existing barcodes and labels will also continue to work and do not need to be reprinted.
Do I need a new account or licence?
No. Existing account credentials, permissions and subscription. An administrator does not need to provide separate access to the eLabNext app.
Will the eLabInventory app stop working on 30 November 2026?
The app will not automatically stop working on that date. However, from 30th November 2026, SciSure will no longer provide fixes, troubleshooting or help-desk support for the eLabInventory app.
The app was built for an older version of Android and can no longer be updated. It may continue to work on a device where it is already installed, but this cannot be guaranteed. If users replace or reset their device, or if their IT team reconfigures it, they may be unable to reinstall it. Future device or operating system updates could also affect its functionality.
For these reasons, we recommend switching to the eLabNext app before support ends.
Why can the eLabInventory app not be updated?
The eLabInventory app was built for an older version of Android, while app stores require apps to support more recent versions. Updating it would require rebuilding the app, and the same inventory functionality is already available in the eLabNext app.
Can I continue using my existing barcodes and labels?
Yes. Existing barcodes and labels will continue to work in the eLabNext app and do not need to be reprinted.
What should I do if I am in the middle of an audit or validation activity?
Please contact our Customer Success team to discuss these requirements and plan the transition.
Where can I get help?
If users have any questions or need help switching apps, please get in contact.
